Machu Picchu (1460-1470), Peru

Just rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, this 15th century extraordinary settlement was built on Machu Picchu by the Incas. Incas most probably left this 7th new wonder of the world due to a smallpox outbreak. This was a lost" city for more than three centuries.

Located at the edge of the Arabian Desert, Petra was the capital of a flourishing Nabataean empire which was under the reign of King Aretas IV from 9 B.C. to 40 A.D. Nabataeans constructed great tunnel constructions and water chambers. Petra also had a theater, patterened from Roman theaters. This could accomodate 4,000 viewers. At present, the Palace Tombs of Petra remains to be an interesting relic of Eastern culture.

Great Wall of China is a set of stones and earthen fortifications that was built to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from the attacks of Xiongnu. Approximately 2 -3 million people died in building this Great Wall of China.

Regarded as one of the new seven wonders of the world, Taj Mahal's beauty and elegance has yet to be outshined. Taj Majal, which is purely built of white marble, is the most beautiful monument built by the Muslim rulers of India, the Mughals.
Taj Mahal was built in memory of Emperor Shah Jahan's beloved wife and queen Mumtaz Mahal, whose real name was Arjumand Banu. An "elegy in marble", Taj Mahal contains the grave of queen Mumtaz Mahal and the grave of Shah Jahan's which was later added.

The Colosseum, originally called Flavian Amphiteatre is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture. This elliptical amphitheatre is the largest structure built in the Roman Empire.

The Christ Redeemer statue, which took five years to construct, was designed by Heitor da Silva Costa and sculptured by Paul Landowski. This is found in Brazil.
