What does a Buckeye mean? We all know Ohio University football team is called Buckeyes. But we all wonder what Buckeye means and where does the word originate? Buckeye simply means a tree.

The buckeye is considered the state tree of Ohio. The scientific name of buckeye tree is Aesculus glabra Willdenow. How does buckeye look like? Buckeye is not the usual tree for it is small and its trunk is small as well. Buckeye is usually found alongside river banks and grows mostly dominant throughout Ohio.
