Meredith Baxter, Elyse Keaton in Family Ties, opens up and leaves the closet. On the Today Show, Baxter admits that she has been dating a woman named Nancy Locke for the last four years on The TODAY Show Wednesday. Nancy is a general conductor, with whom Baxter has a loving relationship after three failed marriages.
Baxter shares her thoughts with anchor Matt Lauer:
“I’m a lesbian and it was later in life recognization. Some people would say, well, you’re living a lie and, you know, the truth is – not at all. This has only been the past 7 years. “I understand why I had the issues I had earlier in my life. I had difficulty connecting with men.”
The Family Ties actress decided to come out though she says it is "very antithetical to who I am" because she does not want the media to fabricate the story. She wants it straight from her in her own dear words.
Baxter luckily has all support of her family and Nancy Locke. In Meredith Baxter's words:
“I said, ‘I think I’m gay.’ My oldest boy said, ‘I knew,’” she laughed. “[They] are just very loving and supportive… The support from my family and anyone close to me has been so immediate and unqualified. I’ve really been blessed.”
